Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: The location is fine. Just a short walk to the outer-center of Douai and although we did not drive, parking seems to be available nearby. The property faces a busy street but the soundproofing is very good. Noise was never an issue. Overall the property would qualify as 'charming' with high ceilings, nice colors, wood floors, and modern appliances that work very well. Radiators are well-distributed throughout the space to provide comfortable heat, even on low settings. The WiFi was very good with 150mps+ download with a VPN. The beds are comfy.

Negative: 1) When we made the reservation (many months before our arrival) I specifically asked if we could get two (2) keys as my wife and I have different work/leisure habits, and we will be in/out of the property at very different times. Getting no answer, after a few weeks I wrote a detailed request (both in English and in French) but received no response; had I been told 'No, the apartment comes with only one key' I would have cancelled the reservation and looked for another option, but we did not get any answer so we took a chance, and we lost... When we arrived, there was only one key in the lock box. I called the number associated with the property and after two (2) tries with no answer, I finally spoke with a nice lady (plenty of noise in her background) and explained the situation; after checking with a third-party, she called me back and stated that "I'm sorry but there is only one key and we can't do anything about it"... 2) The place is 'charming' but it's not without issues... a) There was no TV remote! We looked *everywhere* but could not find it; I left a message that the remote was missing but never got an answer. We ended up having to download an app for the TV and using my phone. Not exactly great. b) We were welcome to the kitchen by a broken cabinet door to the under-sink; that's bad and it reflects low-maintenance. c) The throw on the sofa is nice and if does a great job at covering some major stains... d) Only a small plastic trash can in the toilet room. Nothing in the other rooms. e) The stairwell is narrow and quite steep...

Summary: Great potentials but needs some attention. We may be back if simple changes are implemented.
